“To the tooth” – that’s when life is at its best.
After the pasty taste of “not ready”
Fades away and the twisted strands resist
My savored bite into its heart, but just
Before it loses its chewiness and
The mushy bits scatter across my tongue.
And sauce – it needs thick sauce to make it right.
No marinara for me; I like it
Meaty, some veggies for color, and spice
That says, “Ah, just right!” Nothing is better
Than a heaping dish served hot every day.
I weep for those who lose their will to chew.
