To answer sordid rumors from my past.
‘Tis rumored that my many lovely sonnets
Were writ for men, and my affections… wayward.
The rumor’s false; my heartfelt sentiments
Were written, one and all, to lovely ladies
Portrayed by men upon the English stage.
